Take me back to Kindergarten!!!!!!

Just like that, it’s all over…. well until the next classroom that it. First of all, I had an amazing experience in my 491 practicum. The school I was at was very well balanced staff wise and I never felt unwelcome. I also had a phenomenal CT who really was a master teacher and made me feel at home in her class. When I got the placement of kindergarten I have to be honest I was a little bit nervous. FRESH KINDERGARTENS IN SEPTEMBER YOU SAY?!?!? was my thoughts basically. After a few days of getting to know the students and the school, I quickly realized I had nothing to worry about and kindergarten really does rock (as our partner kindergarten class would say). I had so much fun with these students and had the privilege to get to know each and every one of them to build relationships along the way. I loved the hands-on feel of kindergarten where most learning was done through experience. This approach is something I hope to adapt to whatever grade I am in for the future. I also found a lot of confidence in my teaching over the course of the ten weeks I was in this classroom and it makes me excited for what’s to come in the future. Over time students started to trust me and really see me as their teacher which helped me feel like I was cut out for this. I also had one student who had a hard time trusting me. She tested me a lot and was in a bit of turmoil based on her situation at home and I am super happy to say that she and I were totally good by the time my practicum was over and she started to trust me over that time. At the beginning of this program, lots of people asked me what “my grade is” and I never really had a straight answer or really knew. I myself now know a kindergarten is a place I would like to find my way back to hopefully soon. I am headed to a 2/3 which I am super excited for but I have to be honest when I can get back to a kindergarten classroom I will jump at the chance.
