Educators act ethically and maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the profession.

Let’s dive into standard two! As educators whether we appreciate it or not, we represent our profession to the societal world. That is why I think standard two is so important because as individuals we are granted the ability to approach teaching in our own unique way but we still have maintain an understood level of respectability when it comes to ourselves and the profession. What I find unique about our profession in comparison to others is that teaching is a special blend of leading, sharing, and caring in my opinoun. Other professions do hold such qualities as well but since we are at the end of the day a public service and we are here to serve others we are definitely subject to how the public views our field. That does sound very reductionist because as we all know, even though we work for the good of others we sure do have a great time doing it and thats why we are all here as educators. Coming from these ideas, where I have really seen this standard come into affect is how we treat others and how we portray ourselves to the world. During my first practicum experience I saw this first hand because the staff of the school I was at were so inviting and warm not not only to me but anyone they saw walking down the hallway, any parent or child. I think that things like this is where Standard Two really takes root because to bring a positive light to the teaching profession this has to start where it lives; in the heart of a school. Bringing a good enegry into the school for your students, families and coworkers is where this all starts in my understanding. Going further with this, how we do our work also matters. Making sure we are keeping up to date with new and exciting practices for the classroom as well as giving credit where credit is due is also part of this. I argue this because as educators we owe it to our students to try out new things and explore different practices if its going to work well or better than other approaches for them. When it comes to how we conduct ourselves inside and outside of the classroom something that really resonates with me in this respect is that we are to be professional at work but also carry our profession with us outside of it. This is not to say that we need to carry our educator hats around with us like an advertisement but rather for ourselves we need to keep in mind that we are role models and that does not end when we leave the school parking lot on friday afternoon.
