Educators contribute to the profession.

We’re All In This Together!

In regard to standard 8, I will be referring to some examples of how I enacted this standard during my final practicum. When it comes to standard eight I found a lot of use with this standard in my final practicum. I was able to take in a few different seminars during two different pro d days and use some of what I learned there to implement in my practice. What I found really beneficial though during this practicum was a designated collaboration time that my school had. This time was set up to have an hour a week for different teachers around the school to collaborate on things that they were working on. I was able to meet weekly with my ct, her partner teacher and another grade one teacher. During this time they created a year plan of indigenous content for kindergarten ages. I loved being able to contribute to this project and take in the advice and ideas of others as well as discuss my own. I found that I gained a lot of confidence from these sessions because at first, I would not offer many suggestions but over time I started to contribute to our sessions more and more. These sessions helped me find my voice and get comfortable interacting with other educators. I think this example really connects to standard eight because together we all discussed different ideas and options and created something we can share as a resource to help others. Going forward in my own classroom, I am right next to the other 2/3 classroom and know the teacher from previous work experience so I hope she and I can collaborate on lots of things. Overall, I connect to standard eight because it’s about support and knowing you are not alone in this profession.
